मालदीभ भारतीय उप-महाद्वीप नजीक हिन्द महासागरमा स्थित एक देश हो। मालदीभ दक्षिण एशियाको राजनैतिक र आर्थिक सहयोग मंच सार्कको सबै भन्दा सानो सदस्य हो। यसको राजधानी माले हो। मालदीभको अर्थव्यवस्था मुख्य रूपबाट पर्यटन र माछा ब्यवसायमा आधारित छ र यसको गिनती सबै भन्दा गरीब [स्रोत नखुलेको]देशहरू मध्य हुन्छ। वर्ष २००८मा राष्ट्रपति पदको लागि पहिलो चोटी भाको बहु दलीय लोकतांत्रिक चुनावमा मोहमेद नासिरले विजय हासिल गरि मामून अब्दुल गय्यूमको तीस वर्षको वर्चस्वलाई तोड्यो।

नाम

मालदिभ, वस्तुत: संस्कृतको 'मालद्वीप' हो। नामबाटनै थाह हुन्छ कि यो द्वीपहरूको देश हो। श्रीलंकाको प्राचीन इतिहास-ग्रन्थ महावंशमा एक द्वीपको नाम पालिमा 'महिलदिव' छ, जसको अर्थ 'महिलाहरूको द्वीप' हो।

केहि विद्वानहरूको मत छ कि 'मालदिभ' शब्द मालाद्वीप बाट निकलेको छ जसको अर्थ हुन्छ - 'द्वीपहरूको माला'।

भाषा

धिवेही (Dhivehi) मालदीवको राष्ट्र भाषा हो जुन जनसामान्यको भाषा पनि हो।
