यादव (शाब्दिक अर्थ, राजा यदु का सन्तान[१][२]) एक पौराणिक समुदाय थियो जसले राजा यदुबाट उद्भव भएको मानिन्छ । उक्त समुदायमा ४ कुल रहेका छन् : आभिर, अन्धक, वृष्णि, र सत्वत, [३][४] उनीहरूलाई पौराणिक ग्रन्थमा यदुवंशी कुलको बताइएको थियो । यदुवंशी क्षत्रिय मूलतः अहिर थिए।[५]
राजा यदुको ज्येष्ठ पुत्र सहस्रजीतबाट हैहय कुल[६] तथा अन्य सबै यादव कुलहरू जस्तै छेदी राज्य, विदर्भ राज्य, सत्वत, अन्धक, कुकुर, भोज, वृष्णि र शैन्य कुलहरूको निर्माण यदुका कान्छा पुत्र क्रोष्टु वा क्रोष्टबाट भएको थियो ।[७]
