We would like to invite you all to the April edition of the South Asia Open Community Call that will focus on a discussion with the leadership of the Wikimedia Foundation on their Annual Plan (2026-2027).

The Foundation’s Annual Plan is a high-level roadmap for what the organisation aims to achieve in the coming year. It includes not only the foundation’s Goals, Progress, and plan but also a summary of Global Trends that impact the present and future of our movement.

This is the right time for the South Asia community to participate and share their thoughts on the Wikimedia Foundation’s annual plan, helping shape it together. Share your hopes, concerns, bold ideas, and specific requests to contribute to the Foundation’s planning.

Hence, the next South Asia Open Community Call will be hosted on the following dates/times. Please mark the same in your calendar and sign up here.

We would like to share that applications for the Train the Trainer (TTT) 2026 program are currently open. TTT is a capacity-building initiative aimed at supporting Wikimedians in developing training, facilitation, and leadership skills.

We are happy to inform you that the scholarship application deadline has been extended until 20 May 2026. We are still receiving applications and encourage interested community members, especially emerging leaders, to apply.

We hope you're doing well!

The Indic_MediaWiki_Developers_User_Group (IMDUG) is reaching out to Wikimedia communities across India to strengthen collaboration and better understand the technical needs of different language communities. Last year, we piloted Indic_Community_Task_Force_2025 initiative by engaging with two language communities to understand their technical challenges and identify opportunities for collaboration. Based on our learnings, experience, and the valuable insights we received, we are expanding the initiative this year to reach all Indic communities. Our goal is to reach every community and understand where technical support is most needed.

What are we looking for?

We invite your community to nominate one or two points of contact and share:

The name of your Wikimedia community.
A primary and alternate community contact.
Telegram usernames of the nominated contacts.
A brief overview of your community's technical challenges, needs, or priorities.

This could include areas such as:

Editing or patrolling workflows that could be improved.
Gadgets, tools, or bots that your community needs.
Template or interface-related challenges.
Technical barriers faced by contributors.
Any other broad technical priorities for your community.

How to participate

Please fill out the community response form by 18th August.

If your community prefers, you are also welcome to reply directly on this message.

What happens next?

The information collected will help us:

Build a network of community contacts for future technical collaboration.
Understand and prioritize the technical needs of Indic Wikimedia communities.
Plan focused technical support and community engagement activities.
Connect communities with developers and relevant technical initiatives where appropriate.

Please note that while we will carefully review every submission, our ability to provide support will depend on the complexity of the request, available expertise within the User Group, volunteer bandwidth, and available resources. Although we may not be able to address every request immediately, we will make every effort to prioritize and support as many community needs as possible, and where appropriate, connect communities with the relevant developers or technical channels. We look forward to working more closely with your community!
